When you first start cooking in an RV, you will probably hit a learning curve. The reduced space alone is enough to send us into a downward spiral of ramen and boxed mac and cheese (no judgment, I love both).
When deciding which RV kitchen accessories to include, here are a few things to consider.
- How much counter or storage space will the item need?
- How “resource hungry” is the item? Will it require a lot of power to run or water to wash?
- How durable is the item? Can it handle the outdoors and hold up in a moving kitchen?
These are just a few things we examine when choosing essentials for our kitchen.
With these considerations in mind, here’s our ultimate guide for accessories to create the best RV kitchen with versatile, compact items you use daily.
Best RV Cookware
No matter what kind of cooking you do in your RV kitchen, everyone needs dependable, quality cookware for making meals on the road.
Since you’ll be using a minimal set of pots and pans daily, it’s crucial to have items that work consistently well in your space.
Below are cookware items with numerous characteristics perfect for a tiny kitchen space.
1. RV Stackable Nesting Pots and Pans
Just because you live in a small space doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality cookware.
You can’t beat the stackable nesting pot sets with removable handles from Magma. They are among our favorite luxury RV kitchen accessories.
Why RVers Need Nesting Pots
- Nesting pots save a ton of space while still providing the necessities to cook in an RV kitchen.
- Triple-clad bottoms provide an even heat distribution.
- The pots and lids are oven safe to 500 degrees. They’re ready to cook on the stovetop or in the oven.
You can find 10-piece Magma set below in stainless steel and non-stick. Each of these also comes in a 7-piece set.
For me, one of the most significant differences between these and low-quality cookware is the predictable cooking process. These pots cook consistently every time.
Read more about these cookware sets and why they’re the Best Nesting Pots for an RV.
PRO TIP: The Magma set works with gas, electric, or induction. Even if you change your cooking method, you won’t need to purchase new cookware.
2. Cast Iron Skillet
Cast iron cookware is a favorite among RVers and campers. It’s a versatile piece of kitchen equipment and can be used on the stovetop, in the oven, and even over a fire.
Cast iron is long-lasting and easy to clean if it’s maintained correctly.
Why RVers Need Cast Iron Cookware
- Cast iron is easy to clean by wiping out the cooking area with a bit of hot water and drying immediately. This is convenient for boondocking since you’ll use a minimum amount of water for cleaning.
- Cast iron is very durable, and the more you use it, the better the non-stick ability will become.
PRO TIP: When cleaning your cast iron pan, use a pan scraper to remove any stuck food. Towel dry the pan or heat it over the stove to remove lingering moisture.
3. Silicone Mat
These non-stick baking mats are ideal for pizza, cookies, granola, and more. Silicone mats are basically a replacement for parchment paper.
Don’t worry about greasing your mat – it takes care of the need for that too.
Why RVers Need a Baking Mat
- You can use silicone mats in the oven, microwave, or even the freezer.
- The mat is lightweight and replaces the need to carry around a box of parchment paper.
- The silicone distributes heat and provides an even bake on meals like pizza that never seem to cook evenly.
- In addition to baking, you can use the mat for kneading bread, cooling chocolate bark, or anything that requires a non-stick surface.
- It cleans up easily – just rinse with a bit of soap and water.
- Petite jelly roll size mat, 8-1/4" x 11-3/4"
- Made of the highest quality food grade silicone
- Safe for use in the oven, microwave, and freezer (-40° to 500° degrees Fahrenheit)
We have been using the Silpat brand for decades and appreciate their long-lasting products. We use the jelly roll mat size above, which is 8-1/4″ x 11-3/4″. Depending on your RV oven, you might be able to get away with something larger.
PRO TIP: For storage, roll your mat and secure it with a rubber band, or just store it flat on your baking sheet.
4. Grill & Bake Mats
These non-stick mats make grilling easier and baking more consistent. You won’t get a spot on your grill with these mats. And before you buy a pizza stone, try this mat to distribute heat evenly in the oven.
Why RVers Need Grill / Oven Mats
- Grill saucy wings, veggies, and fruit without making a mess.
- Save time on grill cleanup since you’ll only need to clean the mat.
- Use under a baking pan or casserole dish in the oven to distribute heat evenly.
PRO TIP: We cut our grill and bake mats to the size we needed so they fit perfectly on our grill and in the oven.
Best RV Dishes
When searching for the perfect RV dishes, choose plates and bowls that are lightweight, durable, and easy to clean.
Here are a couple of options for types of dishes that work best in an RV.
5. Corelle Dishes for RV
Corelle dinnerware has all the features of the perfect dishes for an RV. The Corelle brand has been around forever, and they’re still a great choice for RV living.
Why Corelle Dishes are Good for RVers
- They’re an excellent option for the feel of glass dishes without compromising too much on durability.
- Corelle is also relatively lightweight compared to other glass or ceramic dishware.
PRO TIP: I love the Corelle Versa Bowls which are similar to deep-sided plates. We use them regularly, but they work especially well for salads, pasta, or any meal that might want to side off a traditional plate.
6. Melamine Plates
If you want plates with more durability than Corelle, Melamine dishes are an excellent option. These plates are difficult to break and won’t chip.
Why Melamine Dishes are Good for RVers
- Melamine dishes are very lightweight but look similar to porcelain or stoneware dishes.
- They are also a good non-breakable option that is BPA-free.
- 100% food safe melamine, BPA-free
- The look of ceramic dinnerware without the weight or breakability
- Perfect for RVing and camping
- Dishwasher safe. Not microwavable.
How Do You Pack Dishes in an RV?
When storing dishes in your RV cabinets, you want to keep the dishes accessible while also keeping them safe on travel days. You’ll also want to keep them from rattling if you’re in a motorhome.
An easy solution to storing plates is to use a bin with extra dishtowels or non-slip shelf liner between the dishes. You don’t necessarily need to do this in a travel trailer or 5th wheel since the rattling won’t bother you like it will in a drivable RV.
You can also use RV-specific organizers (pictured above) to keep plates in place while traveling.
- Organize and store plates in cabinets
- Don't worry about plates shifting during travel
RV Utensils
You can cook delicious meals in your RV with a few multi-functional kitchen utensils. With the right items, you’ll be able to create almost any dish. This section covers basic kitchen tools that save space while accomplishing many cooking tasks.
7. Basic Kitchen Utensils
When choosing essential cooking utensils, focus on eliminating duplicates and finding smaller versions of tools that will be a better fit for your tiny RV kitchen space. Below is a basic checklist for these items.
- SLIM SPATULA – for scraping out narrow jars and bowls
- FLAT SPATULA – for flipping or moving food in a pan
- WOODEN SPOON – for mixing both wet and dry ingredients and use with non-stick pans
- SMALL SERVING SPOON – for serving hot food
- CAN OPENER – for opening all your favorite canned foods and ingredients
- KITCHEN SHEERS – for cutting open packaging, herbs, meats, and more
- PEELER / JULIENNE PEELER – for peeling potatoes or squash or julienning vegetables such as carrots
- MEASURING SPOONS – stainless steal spoons can be stored on a magnetic knife rack
- MEASURING CUPS – collapsible measuring cups for easy storage or stainless steel for durability
- SMALL WHISK – to emulsify liquids in sauces and marinades
- SMALL SET OF TONGS – for retrieving or moving hot food
- SMALL LADLE – for serving soup, sauces, and other liquids
- HANDHELD FINE GRATER/ZESTER – grate citrus, cheese, and whole spices
- WINE KEY / BOTTLE OPENER – if you don’t drink wine, find a can opener with a built-in bottle opener
PRO TIP: The best way to find out what you need is to start with a basic set of kitchen utensils and see how your cooking process goes. As you live and cook in your RV, you’ll learn more about what you really need (and don’t need) in your kitchen.
8. Best RV Knife Set
A typical knife set is made up of six to eight knives. However, you can get by with a lot less. A few high-quality knives are better than plenty of mid-grade ones.
The best RV knife set is one that’s versatile and easy to maintain. A chef’s knife and a pairing knife have both of these features.
Why These Knives Work for RV Kitchens
- A chef or Santoku knife and a pairing knife will cover all the essential cutting and slicing needs.
- A chef’s knife will provide a versatile option for slicing, dicing, and mincing.
- A pairing knife will offer a smaller, more maneuverable alternative for coring or deseeding fruits and veggies.
PRO TIP: You may also want a serrated knife for chopping softer foods such as bread, cake, and squishy vegetables.
9. Handheld Grater
Yes, even having the right grater is essential in an RV. A handheld grater improves the ease of use in a tight space. It’s also easier to find a place to store it.
Why RVers Need a Handheld Grater
- The handheld option makes it easy to grate when counter space is sparse.
- A handheld grater’s slim profile will take up less storage space than a box or rotary grater.
- A hanging loop at the top allows storing on a Command hook inside a cabinet or on a wall.
- Designed for hard and soft cheeses
- Loop at the top of the handle for hanging to create easy storage
- Stainless steel and measures 13.5" x 3" x 1"
We have the cheese grater above, and it checks all the boxes for a small kitchen tool.
PRO TIP: Get a quality grater that won’t bend under stress or rust after a few months.
RV Kitchen Gadgets & Appliances
Choosing kitchen gadgets for your RV can be more complicated than selecting other RV kitchen equipment.
You need to consider:
- How much power do the appliances need?
- Are they difficult to clean?
- How much kitchen storage space will the gadgets require?
Here are some kitchen appliances that are multi-functional, easy to clean, and don’t take up too much space.
10. Portable Propane Grill or Griddle
A portable grill or griddle allows you to embrace the outdoors at mealtime. There’s nothing better than setting up camp and breaking out the grill while relaxing with a beverage.
Why RVers Need a Grill or Griddle
- On hot days, creating an outdoor kitchen takes the heat and steam outside of the RV.
- The below grill and griddle choices pack away easily for storage in your RV basement, truck, etc.
- Cooking outside allows you to enjoy more of the outdoors.
We like the Weber propane grill above with its automatic igniter, foldout tables, and durability for RV living. However, many RVers swear by the Blackstone griddle, so we also had to give it a place on the list!
For tips on setting up your outdoor RV space (including an outdoor kitchen), check out our ideas for the best RV campsite setup.
PRO TIP: Use the Yoshi grill mat (#3 on this list) for a quick cleanup process after grilling.
11. Electric Tea Kettle
If you are a tea or coffee drinker, this RV kitchen gadget provides a lot of conveniences.
We are big tea drinkers, and being able to quickly make tea without heating up the stove (and the RV) is a big plus.
Why RVers Need a Kettle
- You can heat just the amount of water you need (some models even have a temperature setting).
- A kettle boils water quicker than a microwave.
- You can avoid using your propane tank.
- This kettle has an automatic shut-off for safety, and you won’t waste energy.
- Glass and steel electric kettle with auto shut-off
- 1.0 Liter (the perfect size for small campers)
Like any appliance that creates heat, electric kettles take a bit of power to operate.
They tend to draw about 1,100 to 1,500 watts. You will probably want to be on shore power to use the kettle unless you have a large inverter or generator.
PRO TIP: Use your kettle to get water boiling for oats, pasta, etc., and then pour it into a pot on the stove to save propane.
12. Handheld Food Chopper
Compact and no power-required features make this a must-have RV kitchen gadget.
Just add your items to the container, then pull the handle with the cord to start spinning the blades and chopping the ingredients.
Why RVers Need a Food Chopper
- The best feature of this chopper is it’s not electric – it’s all hand-powered and works like a charm.
- Perfect for finely chopping veggies, fruit, nuts, and more in 15 – 20 seconds.
- It cleans up easily – especially compared to electric models with many parts.
- It also works for making guacamole, salsa, and other chunky sauces.
- Manual, hand-powered food chopper for veggies, fruits, herbs, nuts, and more
- Perfect for travel, RVing, tent camping, boating, and more
- Bowl, blades, and storage lid are dishwasher safe. Hand wash the pull-cord lid.
I have owned the previous version of the chopper above for over a decade. It has always been a staple in the kitchen. I highly recommend it, no matter what kitchen you’re cooking in!
PRO TIP: The container is big enough to chop roughly one large onion. Don’t overstuff the container, or you might have difficulty spinning the blades. Separate veggies and chop them in sections.
13. Immersion Blender
A stick blender packs a big punch in a little package.
Blend soup, whip up a pesto, and make a smoothie or creamy hummus. Purchase one with a whisk attachment, and you’ll have even more options.
Why RVers Need an Immersion Blender
- Immersion blenders have a large amount of mixing power without the high wattage of full-size blenders, Ninjas, and other large RV kitchen gadgets.
- They require little storage space and counter space compared to their bigger counterparts. The small size makes it easy to clean.
- We love the ease of use this blender provides without having to drag out a pitcher, attachments, etc. that come with full-size blenders.
We have the KitchenAid immersion blender above. We tried a few cheaper options after our previous KitchenAid died after 15 years (the cord finally wore out), but we ultimately ended up with another KitchenAid.
We also like the cordless version of the same blender, which includes a whisk attachment.
PRO TIP: Opt for the cordless version with lithium battery power to have a go-to option for off-grid living.
14. RV Drinking Water Purifier & Filter
If you’ve ever gone RV camping, you already know clean water is essential. However, finding a source of safe drinking water can be challenging, especially if you’re in a remote location.
That’s where RV water filters come in handy. These filters can remove bacteria, viruses, and contaminants such as rust and chlorine, making water safe to drink.
Why RVers Need a Water Purifier
- Although you should also use an inline water filter when filling your RV water tank, these drinking water filters purify and filter water after it leaves your water tank.
- By filtering your own drinking water, you can avoid buying and storing separate drinking water.
- You don’t have to worry about sourcing drinking water separately if you’re in a remote location.
Our favorite drinking water filter is the UV-LED water purifier Acuva system above. The purifying technology and small footprint give us confidence in our drinking water while avoiding the need to store an extra appliance.
Many RVers also swear by their Berkey water filter system. If you have free counter space, this can be a good option.
PRO TIP: Before you purchase, ensure you have space under your sink for mounting the Acuva system or counter space for storing the Berkey water filter.
What About the Large RV Kitchen Appliances?
Before adding large kitchen appliances such as crock pots, slow cookers, an Instant Pot, or a pressure cooker to your kitchen – make sure it is something you’ll use often, and it works for your RV kitchen and storage space.
RV Food Storage Containers
Plastic containers are notorious for taking up too much space in the kitchen.
Opt for stackable or collapsible containers to keep these items under control in your RV kitchen storage. Use a small basket or bin to keep lids organized.
Here are a few other specific food storage items that are excellent in an RV kitchen.
15. Tiny Kitchen Food Storage Containers
Small food storage containers are a must when there’s minimal fridge space. There’s no room (literally) for half-full containers in an RV fridge.
Things like chopped herbs, dressing, sauce, etc., need appropriate-sized containers. Having half a dozen 5-ounce containers is ideal for all those little bits.
Why RVers Need Small Containers
- Small containers let you avoid wasting space in the fridge.
- Use these to store small amounts of dry ingredients in easy-to-reach spots in the pantry. Keep bulk supplies in more inconvenient areas you won’t need to often access.
- 6.1 oz. rectangle storage containers (6-pack)
- Airtight and leakproof
- Diswasher, freezer, and microwave safe
We prefer to use small storage containers with four-sided hinge closures to avoid spills.
PRO TIP: Opt for square or rectangular containers over circular for maximum use of space.
16. Vertical Storage Containers
In any tiny living space, you’ll want to use vertical storage to your advantage. The RV pantry is an excellent place to start since we often need to make the most of our kitchen storage.
Why RVers Need Vertical Storage
- These containers allow you to store more dry goods in convenient to-reach areas by utilizing vertical space.
- You can easily see what you have and how much. This will help you avoid the last-minute grocery run or change in dinner plans.
- Lock N Lock durable, airtight, and leakproof containers
- Each container holds 7.61 cups
- BPA free plastic, 4-piece set, clear
PRO TIP: Make sure to measure the height of the cabinets where you’ll store your food. Most vertical storage containers are too tall for RV cabinets. We recommend the Lock & Lock’s because they are a shorter vertical container.
17. Cabinet Organizers
Living with a moving kitchen, you’ll need to contain items so they aren’t tossed around during travel. These RV kitchen cabinet organizers are vital to making sense of your RV cabinet space and fridge.
Why RVers Need Cabinet Organizers
- These organizers with handles allow you to use space efficiently. No more rooting around to see what’s in the back – just pull out your bin.
- They contain spills that might happen during travel.
- The see-through feature lets you organize for maximum space while allowing you to see what you have quickly.
- Set of three storage baskets with handles
- Keep cabinets, cupboards, and the fridge neat and tidy
- Size small, medium, and large in a set
We like the storage bins above that are similar to what we use in the fridge and cabinets.
PRO TIP: Store heavily used similar ingredients in these for easy meal prep. We keep the oatmeal fixings in one bin so we can easily pull the bin out of the cabinet and complete our breakfast with all the ingredients readily available.
18. Beeswax Food Wraps
Living in a small space closer to nature, we’ve taken a look at our single-use items in the kitchen. We were desperate to cut back on plastic storage bags, and beeswax wraps helped us do just that.
To use beeswax wraps, cover the piece of food and use the heat from your hand to mold the wrap into place.
Why RVers Need Beeswax Wraps
- Reusable beeswax wraps will help you minimize your use of plastic storage bags.
- They maximize space saving in the fridge compared to a glass or plastic container – and your food is still fresh!
- You’ll create less trash which is more eco-friendly and more manageable in a tiny RV.
- Made of certified organic cotton (plastic and silicone free)
- Washes easily with soap and cold water
- Made in Vermont, USA
We love our Beeswax Wraps! With regular use, they’ll last about a year before needing to be replaced.
PRO TIP: Keep these wraps away from heat and hot water to avoid melting the wax and rendering the wrap unusable. Don’t ask how we know!

RV Kitchen Organization & Storage Items
Organizing an RV kitchen will be more manageable if you have a few specific storage items to help you maximize your space.
Here are our RV kitchen essentials for storing items in easy-to-reach places to ensure your cooking process is as functional and effortless as possible.
19. Non-Slip Shelf Liner
Shelf liner is practically a requirement in your moving home. When you’re traveling down the road, a non-slip shelf liner will keep your items quiet and keep them from shifting during RV travel.
Why RVers Need Shelf Liner
- Line your kitchen cabinets and shelves to keep large items and storage bins from shifting while riding down the road.
- Line your storage bins and drawer inserts to keep small things from rattling around as well.
- Most brands of shelf liner are machine washable, making it easy to clean.
- Kitchen cabinet liner that is heavy, durable, and waterproof
- 10 feet of liner per roll
- Available in a variety of colors
We like the shelf liner above or something similar for RV cabinets and drawers.
PRO TIP: Purchase the “smooth top” so crumbs and spills stay on top of the mat for easy cleanup.
20. Magnetic Knife Rack
In the RV, we always aim to maximize space. Anything we can store on the wall while maintaining the aesthetics is a win.
Why RVers Need a Knife Rack
- A magnetic strip allows you to store camper kitchen accessories in close reach.
- It’s great for more than just knives – hang your metal measuring spoons, kitchen utensils, bottle opener, etc.
- It frees up drawer space for other kitchen accessories.
You can find these in metal or wood versions in many different sizes.
PRO TIP: We hung our strip with rivets and never had a problem. We have never had a knife fall with the above strip, even on bumpy roads.
21. RV Paper Towel Holder
Unless you are going all-in on reusable paper towels, you’ll probably still want the disposable version for big messes. And in that case, you’ll definitely want a paper towel holder.
Why RVers Need a Towel Holder
- It frees up precious counter space in your RV while still keeping paper towels accessible.
- This version allows for one-handed tearing and won’t allow paper towels to unravel while traveling.
- Paper towels slide easily on and off the roller
- Easy to install (RVers can either use the screws, mounting tape, or a Command strip)
- 14-inch, silver
We’ve had the above paper towel holder in our last two RVs. It works great in an RV kitchen and mounts easily with screws or rivets.
PRO TIP: Before you mount this paper towel holder, make sure you have enough space to change out the roll in the area where you are mounting it.
RV Kitchen Sink Accessories
Managing the sink area in the RV, along with the dishwashing process, is crucial in your tiny kitchen.
Here are some kitchen accessories that help with dish drying, saving water, and ensuring the sink area is multi-purpose.
22. Dishcloths (Odor-Free)
When we started full-time RVing, I stocked the motorhome with an ordinary dishcloth and didn’t think twice about it.
After months of tolerating a stinky, wet dishrag in a confined space, I started searching for an alternative.
Why RVers Need Nylon Dishcloths
- These scrubbers are odor-resistant, even in the most humid areas (no washing or microwaving required).
- Nylon does not promote as much bacteria growth as cotton dishrags and will last longer than a sponge.
- It has a convenient loop for hanging.
- They’re safe on non-stick cookware.
- Great for RVs, camping, and the boat galley
- Lasts 3 - 4 times longer than a traditional sponge
- 4-pack (available in 3 color choices)
PRO TIP: If the dishcloths start getting dingy, we just toss them in with the laundry.
23. Collapsible Tub
A collapsible tub that fits securely in your sink is an essential kitchen accessory for an RV lifestyle.
When we dry camp (or stay somewhere without a sewer hookup), we put the tub in the sink and catch extra freshwater for washing dishes.
When it’s convenient, we’ll toss water outside the RV to avoid putting more water into the gray tank.
Why RVers Need a Collapsible Tub
- This bin allows you to conserve or reuse freshwater
- It keeps the water flowing into your gray water tank to a minimum.
- It collapses down for easy storage when you don’t need to manage water resources.
Ultimately, this item allows you to stay off-grid longer. We like the two sizes above, depending on your sink size. The smaller version is also available as a collapsible dish-drying rack.
PRO TIP: This tub pulls double-duty on laundry day. Perfect for handwashing small clothing items, kitchen towels, etc.
24. Solid Dish Soap
Solid dish soap is a great sustainable kitchen option for RVers. It will save you space in the kitchen since it takes multiple dish soap bottles to equal one solid soap bar.
Why RVers Need Solid Dish Soap
- Solid dish soap won’t spill or leak on travel days and can easily be stored in the sink or a cabinet.
- If you like to boondock, solid dish soap is preferable since most options are eco-friendly and won’t harm the environment if you toss out your dishwater.
- Solid dish soap also makes it easier to avoid using too much soap, which can lead to using more water to wash dishes.
We use Claryti’s super solid dish soap. We love that they are a small company using organic ingredients, and whose owners previously traveled full-time. However, you can find other solid dish soap options here.
PRO TIP: If your soap is in a tin container, remember to let it dry out a bit before putting the top on keep it solid.
25. Collapsible Dish Drying Rack or Mat
Handwashing and drying dishes in an RV is one of the most avoided chores by RVers.
We often joke about doing the dishes by putting them in the sink and hiding them with the RV sink cover.
Thankfully, there are a few options for drying dishes that make the process as painless as possible.
Choosing a Dish Drying Rack or Mat
Base your drying preference on how many dishes you use when cooking (and how many people you cook for). Also, account for how much space you have for the drying process.
Collapsible dish drying racks can be set up on the counter or in a large sink. If you have the space, these are very maneuverable and hold quite a few dishes
Drying mats are great for smaller kitchens since they are more flexible. They can be folded to a small size based on how many dishes you are washing or to fit in a custom space.
Rolling mats can be used over the sink or on the counter. The rolling mat shown below also telescopes to fit your sink. These mats can also double as a trivet!
PRO TIP: Mats will be easier to store, but collapsible frames are typically more sturdy.
RV Kitchenware
From the ideal cutting board to how to choose the right colander for your cooking needs – this section covers essential RV kitchenware that is versatile and easy to maintain while storing effortlessly and providing efficiency in your kitchen space.
26. Small Cutting Board
The little things really matter when you are trying to cook efficiently in a small space.
A small cutting board (roughly 8×6 inches) is an ideal tool when you just need to slice cheese, chop herbs, or mince a clove of garlic.
Why RVers Need a Small Cutting Board
- A small cutting board saves on prep space and cleanup time when you don’t need the larger board’s chopping space.
- Larger cutting boards are also just harder to maneuver and clean in a tiny kitchen. A smaller board keeps you nimble during the cooking process.
- 8-inch × 6-inch
- Choose from three different colors
- Can withstand temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
PRO TIP: Get a cutting board with a hole in one corner. Hang it on a Command hook in a cabinet or on the wall for easy access.
27. Colander
A colander is an essential cooking item for your RV kitchen. Whether you’re straining spaghetti noodles or draining canned foods, it’s a helpful kitchen tool.
Choosing a Colander for Your RV
There are quite a few options for a colander or strainer in your tiny kitchen. Choosing the right one depends on your available storage and cooking needs.
A collapsible colander will easily store flat inside a cabinet, either vertically or horizontally. You can get round or rectangular styles of collapsible colanders.
A 6-inch colander is great for draining canned beans or straining water from a small portion of noodles. These take up little space and are perfect when cooking for one or two people.
A nesting colander is ideal if you purchase the Magma nesting pots. You can add a large colander to the set that fits snuggly inside the large stock pot. This colander is excellent for washing and steaming veggies, cooking pasta, and more. Other cookware sets may have a similar option that is perfect for versatility and saving space.
PRO TIP: Store a small colander stacked with your bowls so it doesn’t take up extra space. Keep this option within easy reach and store a larger collapsible or nesting colander in a cabinet for larger cooking tasks.
28. RV Stove Top Cover
A stove cover for your RV will add a good deal of extra space to your prep area.
Stove covers can also double as RV sink covers if you don’t already have them. When you use your stove, move the stovetop cover to the sink to keep your added counter space.
This Camco option is an affordable, quick option to get more out of your camper kitchen.
Why RVers Need a Stove Cover
- In most cases, it will double your prep space in the kitchen.
- Rubber feet keep the oven cover secure while still allowing easy removal.
- It will also help silence that pesky stove rattle while moving down the road.
- Solid-wood oak stove cover
- Compatible with almost all 3 and 4 burner stove tops
- 19.5 inches long, 17 inches wide
This above option from Camco is a universal cover and will fit almost any three or four-burner RV stovetop. It also made our list of 10 RV Kitchen Must-Haves.
PRO TIP: When you need to use the stove, you can lean the cover against the stove’s back wall or set it over part of the sink to use it as prep space.
29. Stainless Steel Wine Glasses
These stemless, shatterproof wine glasses are essential for RV living.
As someone who usually prefers glass or plastic over metal drinkware – I love these glasses. They have a thin lip that is comfortable to drink from. They also don’t leave a weird metallic aftertaste like some brands.
Why RVers Need Stainless Steel Wine Glasses
- Stainless steel wine glasses are light and portable for easy use in the outdoors.
- These unbreakable glasses are more eco-friendly than plastic or acrylic glasses.
- They won’t rust – we’ve had them on the boat for over two years, and unlike other stainless steel items, they are free of any surface rust. (The Hausgard brand below is 304 food-grade steel).
PRO TIP: If these develop discoloration, soak with a little beach and water to remove tea, wine, and other stains.
30. Reuseable ‘Unpaper’ Towels
Reusable paper towels are our second sustainable option on this list. We love reducing the need for disposable paper towels by substituting this reusable option.
Why RVers Need Reusable Towels
- This eco-friendly paper towel replacement will save on storage and reduce trash.
- They’re durable and can be used many times before washing.
- You’ll save money in your grocery budget too!
- Eco-friendly, reusable paper towels
- Made from 100% organic cotton
- 10-pack
PRO TIP: If you’re not using cloth napkins, the reusable paper towels are perfect for casual dinner napkins.
31. Leakproof Oil Dispenser
One of my pet peeves is an olive oil bottle sticky with the drippings of its contents. This olive oil dispenser is no-drip and durable, making it ideal for handling the literal bumps of RV life.
Why RVers Need an Oil Dispenser
- Unlike many other olive oil dispensers, the large mouth makes cleaning easy. Have you ever tried to clean a dispenser with a spout?
- It truly is leakproof and no-drip, making the cooking process smoother.
- You can use it for more than just oil – it’s perfect for salad dressing, syrup, vinegar, and more.
- Leakproof cooking oil dispenser
- No drip design
- Holds 21 oz.
PRO TIP: Since this olive oil dispenser is a see-through container, you’ll maintain oil quality longer by storing it in a dark area. Light and heat are the enemies of olive oil. Choose a darker-colored dispenser if you plan to keep your oil in the open.

Outfitting an RV Kitchen
Just like in our sticks-and-bricks home, the way we cook in our RV is personal. It’s based on what we eat, how we shop, and how we travel in our RV.
Make sure you figure out what works for you, and don’t buy something just because the RV industry says you need it.
When setting up and outfitting your RV kitchen, consider minimizing your kitchen accessories to include multi-purpose and durable items that you’ll use often.
You’ll be able to create a functional and efficient RV kitchen by finding ways to maximize cabinet, drawer, and wall storage.

Sweet! This is super useful even for living in a home!
Hey Zach, thanks! And yes, since RVs require such a mindful use of space and storage a lot of these items would be beneficial in a house – especially one with a smaller kitchen!
Wow, this is amazing. I can’t wait to utilize some of this great day. Thank you. Looking forward to the next columns.
Thanks Lucy! So glad you found it helpful 🙂
I have discovered most of these through two years of living full time in my rv but you left off a countertop ice maker which along w my breville espresso machine make camper life bougee
Ah, yes! The ice maker is a great addition. I do recommend one if you have the counter space, so that will have to get added to the list. I’ll have to take your word on the espresso machine, that does sound like a great way to glamp up your camper kitchen. Thanks for your comment, Darren!
